I am a ceramic artist, and graduate of The Vancouver School Of Art (1976) with post grad studies at Emily Carr College of Art and Design(now Emily Carr University) in 1984. I have explored contemporary issues, such as human sexuality, the environment, and politics. In 1988, when the issue of safe sex, was not yet openly discussed,by the politicians, I created "Bedside Political Condom Boxes", for the political candidates, who were running in the Canadian general election. I handbuilt porcelain "CONDOM BOXES", on which, I stamped the names of the Prime Minister to be, (Brian And Mila), as well as 2 more boxes stamped with the name John Turner and as well as Ed Broadbent. Since safe sex, and the appearance of Hiv/Aids, world wide was still a topic that was couched in fear and ignorance, and was not openly discussed by our elected officials, I designed these boxes to bring awareness to this issue. This story was picked up by "The Vancouver Sun", newspaper, and it ran on the weekend before voting day. Later it was also picked up by "The Crafts Report". Over the years I have worked with American ceramic artist Hal Reigger, video-shooting his very last RAKU workshop, which as of yet remains unedited.I lived in Berlin West Germany,in 1985, and held a show of work done there at "Galerie Jannsen". Presently I concentrate on making functional ware, and this is where my interest occurs- as I believe in the appreciation and use of the handmade, in our daily lives. I am a member of "The Potter's Guild of B.C.", and "The Burnaby Potter's Guild". I also developed a ceramic plate concept called "The Millennium Plate Project" which has been exhibited, and is currently available for exhibition.
